Disability Leadership

Disability Leadership. Driving change.

Over 20% of Australians live with disability, but despite this people with disability remain significantly underrepresented in leadership across every sector.

We are missing from boardrooms, senior roles, advisory bodies, and political decision-making spaces. In Australia, only 1% of executive leaders, and just 0.5% of ASX 200 board members are people with disability.

People with disability are twice as likely to be unemployed, a statistic that’s barely changed in over two decades.

At DisCo, we work with organisations ready to be more disability inclusive, and build the next generation of leaders. We support you to remove barriers and build leadership environments where people with disability can contribute in a meaningful way.

how we support disability leadership

Keynote speaking. experts through experience.

Our keynote speakers are lived experience experts who bring insight, humour, and deep knowledge and experience to the stage. We speak on topics like disability rights, accessibility, leadership, co-design, and the value of lived experience in challenging and changing systems.

Each keynote we deliver is grounded in collective experience, tailored to your audience, and designed to shift perspectives and challenge the status quo.

We have particular expertise in delivering keynote presentations to conferences, leadership forums, and professional development days including International Day of People with a Disability, International Women’s Day and corporate leadership programs for emerging leaders.

Disability Advisory groups. a voice at the table.

Disability Advisory Groups provide a space for people with disability to inform, guide, and shape the decisions that are made. Whether that is at an organisational or community level, we support you to establish, strengthen, or refresh disability advisory groups that are inclusive, diverse, and effective.

We can support you with:

  • Establishing governance structures or documentation including terms of reference, co-designed by your team and people with disability
  • Group design and membership makeup, including role clarity and purpose
  • Member recruitment, including advice around best practice for accessibility.
  • Training or coaching of members to upskill and grow disability leaders
  • Provide ongoing support or advice to ensure the group is productive and meaningful

We have worked with Board of Directors, local council, organisations and community groups to build strong disability leaders that are big picture thinkers, and provide experience and knowledge that is rooted in community.

strategy & co-design. with, not for.

Inclusion starts with good planning, and that means making sure people with disability are part of the process from the beginning.

We work alongside organisations to co-design strategies, programs, and policies that are disability inclusive. Looking through a nuanced and intersectional lens, we support with their Disability Inclusion Action Plans, helping turn big goals into practical steps that make a real difference.

We’re not here to point fingers. We’re here as collaborators, bringing our lived experience and knowledge to front of mind, and avoids the need for costly and tedious retrofits later.

Co-design isn’t just about asking for feedback. It’s about designing together, to ensure people with disability are included and respected.
